The Corpse in the Gazebo is the fifth in your Food Blogger Mystery series. Is there anything readers should know about the previous books? Can this be read as a standalone?
The Corpse in the Gazebo can be read as a standalone but I think readers would have a more enjoyable experience if they read the series in order.
The reason I suggest that is because of the relationships between the characters have developed over the past four books. But while writing the book, I did my best to sprinkle in backstory so that new readers to the series have an idea of the past.
What should readers know about Hope Early?
Hope Early is a food blogger who returned to her hometown of Jefferson, CT after losing a baking reality show competition, quitting her magazine editing job and getting a divorce. It was a rough year for her.
In The Uninvited Corpse, the first book in the series, her sister is a person of interest in a business rival’s murder. Lucky Hope is tenacious, loyal and has a strong sense of justice. She also has a hard time saying no to people which is how she usually ends up on fundraising committees and tangled up in murder investigations.
Tell us about the small town in Connecticut where the series is set?
Jefferson is a fictional town set in the northwest corner of Connecticut. Its roads are dotted with farms and charming old homes. Primarily residential, its Main Street is an antique lovers’ dreams and draws tourists throughout the spring to fall.
What drew you to writing about a food blogger turned amateur sleuth?
I wanted to write a culinary-theme mystery series and since I’d been a food blogger I decided to write what I knew.
When I made the decision to write the series, I closed my food blog so that I could concentrate solely on writing the books.
Give us a taste of the recipes we might encounter in Hope’s Kitchen.
There’s always something cooking in Hope’s kitchen. Being a food blogger means she’s always testing recipes.
In The Corpse in the Gazebo, Hope shares her recipe for Chocolate Chip Scones. She doesn’t think twice about whipping up Double Chocolate Chip cookies (she loves chocolate!). And if her niece and nephew surprise her with a visit, she whips up stovetop Mac and Cheese without breaking a sweat. Those are a few of the recipes in the book.

What are you working on now?
I’ve just started writing the sixth Resale Boutique mystery. Currently, I write two series. The Resale Boutique series features Kelly Quinn, an out-of-work fashionista who inherited her granny’s tired, old consignment shop.

Debra Sennefelder is an avid reader who reads across a range of genres, but mystery fiction is her obsession. Her interest in people and relationships is channeled into her novels against a backdrop of crime and mystery.
Her first novel, THE UNINVITED CORPSE (A Food Blogger mystery) was published in 2018.
In addition to writing the Food Blogger mystery series, she writes the Resale Boutique Mystery series.
When she’s not reading, she enjoys cooking and baking and as a former food blogger, she is constantly taking photographs of her food. Yeah, she’s that person.
Born and raised in New York City, where she majored in her hobby of fashion buying, she now lives and writes in Connecticut with her family. She’s worked in retail and publishing before becoming a full-time author. Her writing companion is her adorable and slightly spoiled Shih Tzu, Connie.
