You Can Tell Me

Crime writer Olivia Cruz is drawn into the dark secrets of a missing friend in a terrifying novel of suspense by #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh.
On the three-year anniversary of true crime writer Olivia Cruz’s horrific kidnapping, she’s scheduled to walk her podcaster friend Zoe March through the crime scene, but Zoe fails to show. Olivia knows Zoe would never stand her up—not today.
Zoe’s husband, who claims she never came home the night before, has reported her missing. But marital conflicts make the police suspect she has left him. Olivia thinks otherwise. The police aren’t looking for Zoe, so Olivia begins her own investigation. Retracing her friend’s last steps, she finds Zoe’s phone and a text with one chilling word: Run.
It soon becomes apparent that Zoe has been keeping secrets, and with her true crime podcast, there’s no telling what she has unearthed. To find her, Olivia must dig into her friend’s past. Did Zoe vanish to escape a killer, and is Olivia walking into a deadly trap?

You Can Tell Me — My Thoughts
Melinda Leigh launches her Olivia Cruz series with a new story and familiar characters.
Olivia Cruz first came on the scene in 2018 in Leigh’s novel What I’ve Done, but the author felt the character was “bold, resourceful, and wicked smart,” and deserving of her own series.
Three years ago, Olivia Cruz was kidnapped and traumatized, but she’s finally decided to speak publicly about her ordeal.
She makes arrangements to go through the crime scene with a trusted ally—podcaster Zoe March. She’s prepared to face her own personal demons, in a very public way, but discovers instead that her friend Zoe has gone missing.
Several people in Zoe’s sphere act unreliable and suspicious and Olivia becomes convinced that the police won’t do their part to track her friend down, taking matters in her own hands.
Olivia is assisted by her boyfriend Lincoln Sharp, an ex-cop turned private eye, and her niece Nicki, who is good with tech and up for adventure.
Leigh shows off her talent for creating tension, while mixing in a touch of romance as Olivia and Lincoln try to sort out where their relationship is headed. Nicki is a fun addition, and a youthful balance to the older characters.
The plot is a mix of suspense and investigative procedures, without the all consuming drive that some readers might expect from a Melinda Leigh book, but the story is solid and makes for a fun, if lighter, read.
Despite the reliance on previously introduced characters, You Can Tell Me can be read as a standalone.
