Wired for Magic

Rowan Campbell has a stalker. Only her magic can stop him.
Her stalker’s obsession goes beyond Rowan’s natural beauty: he wants to control the magic she struggles to admit she possesses. More than anything, Rowan longs for normalcy. But the stalker’s unlimited resources and unrelenting pursuit force her to accept that leaning into her magic is the only path to a chance to free herself. Angry and desperate, Rowan builds a plan to break free of her pursuer that requires her to come out of hiding, return home to America, and learn to use her inherited abilities. To do so, she’ll enlist the help of her white hat hacker brother, Griff, and her aunt, the only living connection to her magic. Before she’s ready to face her stalker, Rowan must evade capture, learn about her magical legacy, and accept that she can only prevail if she believes in herself and embraces her power.
Wired For Magic is the fast-paced story of a woman’s journey to come to terms with her personal power in a battle for her life, freedom, and the chance to open a path to love.

Wired for Magic Guest Post by Janet Roberts
Authors are often asked to define their ‘genre’. That’s a difficult question for me. I tend to dislike labels—they feel confining—and love genre mash-ups that allow me to spread my literary wings. My first introduction to reading, as a child, formed the personal reading interests I carry with me today. As a writer, I began by writing what I like to read.
From ages seven to ten, I read mysteries, girls fiction, and magical realism. Those early books came in the form of Nancy Drew mysteries, Anne of Green Gables series, and Alice in Wonderland. At age 10, tests showed I was reading on a 12th grade to college level.
Here’s what I knew . . . I was bored with the books available to kids my age and I’d spied my parents novels stacked on the corner of the upper shelf in their bedroom closet where they placed them once they’d finished reading. I dragged a chair over, took a look, and started with The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth. My parents stack included thrillers, suspense, and historical fiction. I began hiding them, one at a time, under my pillow, then reading at night by the street light illumination coming in through my bedroom window. I went through Eye of the Needle by Ken Follett and multiple books by Leon Uris. In the process, Uris and his book, Trinity, became my favorite. I find that interesting today because Leon Uris never graduated from high school. He had no writing degrees. I have multiple degrees, but none in creative writing and I’ve had no official creative writing classes. Like Uris, I went to Ireland and fell in love with the country. I return as often as possible. I partially set my book, The Leaf Queen, there, and hope to use the country as a setting in a book currently in the research stage.
The first books I authored were women’s fiction with domestic suspense. I knew I wanted to incorporate suspense, but I was uncertain how to level up to thriller and lacked confidence as to my abilities. I wrote on instinct. Fortunately, I’ve since attended many craft workshops and my writing has improved! In 2010, I began working in the cybersecurity field, building education and awareness programs. About four years into that career, I started writing What Lies We Keep. I was afraid to layer in cybersecurity elements as I’m not a tech geek, but I worked near some great experts and, as the book evolved, so did my confidence that I could write tech thrillers that were understandable to readers in the same way I made cyber education understandable to a non-technical audience. What Lies We Keep published in 2024, has won 5 awards, and has done much to boost my confidence in my writing style and abilities.
Wired For Magic takes everything about me and my writing to the next level. It’s a female-led urban fantasy thriller that combines a woman as the ‘shero’ (like Nancy Drew), magical realism (like Alice in Wonderland), and suspense/thriller components like the adult novels stacked on my parents shelves. It’s set in Wales, another country I love. I wanted to write a “shero” who inherits magic through her mother but is unsure how to use it because her mother dies when she’s young. Rowan became that “shero” as she and I embarked on a journey to find magic training, use her powers to defeat a stalker, and claim a life filled with love. In the process, Rowan finds her personal power and evolves from a frightened woman hiding from a relentless man to a woman using her magic for good and owning her life, love, and future.
Throughout the book, Rowan speaks to her mother’s ghost seeking support, advice, and learning death does not extinguish a mother’s love.
A woman’s personal power is her magic, even if it’s not the type of otherworldly magic Rowan carries within her. Wired For Magic honors the magic passed down from mother to daughter throughout time. It’s the first in what I hope will be a series of thrilling adventures for Rowan

Great guest post. I tend not to pay too much attention to the labels. I just read what sounds good to me.
“death does not extinguish a mother’s love.” ~ I love this!
Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
Thank you so much for posting my blog! I love connecting with new readers 🙂
My pleasure! Congrats on your release.
I love the fact that your writing circled around to encompass your own childhood reading influences. Nancy Drew was a badass!
