Behind These Four Walls

From the author of Not What She Seems, Yasmin Angoe’s thriller explores revenge, morality, corruption, and wealth as a woman sets out to uncover the truth behind her friend’s disappearance and expose the powerful family behind it.

Isla Thorne had a rough start in life. Orphaned young, she spent her formative years in a group home where she met her best friend, Eden Galloway. At sixteen, they decide to run away to LA…but Eden never makes it.

It’s been ten years since Eden vanished. And Isla’s determined to find her.

She begins at the last place Eden visited: the Corrigan mansion in Virginia. Eden claimed to have unfinished business there. Posing as an aspiring journalist, Isla insinuates herself into the wealthy family’s home and begins searching for the truth.

The more she digs, the more Isla discovers Eden isn’t who she thought she was. Was she even a victim, or did Eden plan this all along? Desperate for answers and to keep her identity hidden, Isla finds an ally in one of the Corrigan sons. But as she wades deeper into this power-hungry family’s secrets and lies, she finds herself in the crosshairs of a bloodline that’s more lethal than loyal.

My Thoughts on Behind These Four Walls

Author of the bestselling Nena Knight trilogy, Yasmin Angoe deftly moves from espionage thrillers to psychological suspense with her latest release.

Pitting Isla Thorne—a product of the foster system—against the rich and powerful Corrigan family provides immediately conflict and drama in this dynamic domestic thriller. Isla may have grown up disadvantaged, but her experiences make her a tough, determined protagonist, with the smarts to carry out an investigation against people hiding a multitude of sins through all the benefits that money can buy.

Using shifts in time and multiple narrators, Angoe slowly builds the story behind the disappearance of Isla’s best friend Edie Galloway. Despite years passing since Edie’s disappearance, Isla never gave up on finding the truth. Complex characters weave a slow-burn plot, exploding with tension at the end as the truth finally becomes revealed.

Angoe combines a solid mystery with romance and tense action with enough twists to keep readers guessing, and the lush descriptions of place providing another delicious layer to the reader’s experience. Though occasionally overwritten, the overall tone is one of intrigue with a deep dive into what people are willing to do to protect the power they wield and those they love.

Perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty and Rachel Hawkins, Behind These Four Walls is bound to keep Angoe on the bestseller list.
