The Interview with Romantic Crime Fiction Author KD Richards

Missing at Christmas is the second in the West Investigation Series, but you focus on different characters than Pursuit of the Truth. Tell us about how this series works:

The West Investigations series is about an elite private investigations firm run by brothers in New York City. The investigators take on cases that other firms can’t or won’t.

Missing at Christmas is the second book in the series and focuses on the youngest brother, Shawn, and the woman he can’t forget, Addy, who’s sister has gone missing.

Don’t miss my review of the first book in the series, Pursue of the Truth, click the link here.

What should readers know about Shawn West?

I think Shawn West is a little more laid back than his older brother Ryan. He and Ryan are close, but their relationship is going through a bit of a transition as Shawn attempts to step out of his brother’s shadow, take more responsibility in the company, and shed some of the “little brother” aura that Ryan has cast over him.

Tell us about the location for Missing at Christmas:

Missing takes place largely in Bentham, New York, a fictional city about an hour and a half outside of Manhattan.

I love Manhattan and it was fun setting Pursuit of the Truth there among other places, but when I decided that this story would take place outside of the city I wanted to create my own small town.

What appeals to you about writing romantic suspense?

I love the mix of romance and mystery. I think the combination of the suspense that is derived from both genres makes for truly interesting stories both from an action perspective and from an emotional perspective.

Now that you have a number of books under your belt, what would you go back and tell your debut author self?

Oh, so much! But I think the biggest thing is to just keep writing. Write through the writer’s block and the not-so-great scenes. Getting something on paper is the first step. You can always make it better once it’s there.

What are you working on now?

My first thriller is coming out next month so I’m really excited about that.

It’s sort of a combination psychological thriller/police procedural. I’m currently working on the next book I hope to sell, another psychological thriller, and brainstorming more adventures for the folks at West Investigations.

I’m excited about it too! Check back Sept 16 to learn more here!
